NarrativeForge help · Imports and formatting

Bring the structure across with the words

Troubleshoot NarrativeForge imports by separating file access, manuscript text, screenplay elements and production metadata, while preserving the original project.

Which edition are you using?

For Mac

  • Confirm the app can access the chosen file and that any cloud-synced source has finished downloading to the Mac.
  • For Scrivener, preserve the project backup as well as any compiled manuscript; an export does not represent the entire binder and its history.

A few checks to begin with

  1. Keep a separate original and try a copy of a short representative chapter or scene. Check the current compatibility notes for your edition and source format.
  2. Identify the first difference: a file that cannot open, missing text, changed formatting, scene boundaries, character assignments or production metadata.
  3. Compare the structured source and a reference rendering from the same revision. Do not judge production fidelity from a visually similar first page alone.

If you still need a hand

These details help support understand the problem without asking for your creative work.

  • Source application, version and export format
  • The first expected item that changed or disappeared
  • Whether the same problem appears in a small, non-confidential sample
